Refugios Salkantay is a team of families living along the Salkantay route. There is no travel agency or middleman operating the company. We are people from the area who will interact with you directly in order to bring you the highest quality service. On the first day you will be picked up from your hotel at 6:30am and taken by van to the town of Mollepata about two and a half hours away. Here you will be received at our restaurant, “La Casona de Mechita” by either Me Flor, my brother Edwin or our Mother Mercedes. We will have all of the information for the trek, the map water and snacks for the day. We also sell breakfasts and last minute things you might need on your trek (headlamp, sunblock, insect repellent, sandals, chocolates, hats for sun and cold, wool gloves, plastic ponchos for rain, etc.) We will continue on from Mollepata in our truck to Challacancha and from there walk for two hours to our Refuge at Soray Pampa, where you will have a Coca tea upon arrival. While awaiting lunch you can enjoy the scenic balconies and all the comforts of our rooms (matrimonial, doubles, triples, hot showers). For lunch we prepare local style dishes and vegetarian foods.
After lunch we can go on a hike up to a glacial lagoon at the foot of Nevado Humantay. It takes 3 hours roundtrip and will help to acclimatize for the hike the next day. Back at the Refuge you will have an appetizer waiting for you and a delicious dinner afterward.
